Christmas Incorporated is a play for three
women and six others, either male or female, set in a small child's
bedroom."What's the spirit of Christmas? Asks the child as she
settles down to write the customary letter to Father Christmas. Before
her, the Educational Psychologist and F.C.P.Abattle over what toys the
child ought to have with science versus commercialism. As the toys are
paraded the child makes her own imaginative adjustments until she is
so confused she discards them in a tantrum. F.C.P.A. and the
Educational Psychologist each go their own way, neither really the
wiser. But the Child has learnt the meaning of the true spirit of
Christmas - trying to make everybody happy.
This has been one of my most successful one-act
plays and has been performed regularly over the last twenty years.Part
of its success is no doubt due to the fact that it can be performed by
any age group, female or mixed sex, making it suitable for almost any
drama group. It was given a professional radio performance in 85 and
translated into Dutch in 96.
