"Choice" is a satirical comedy for 8
men and 12 women or an all female cast of 20. (doubling is possible)
The scene is the day room of the People's Rest Centre in the year
2040. Three old ladies bemoan their inability to obtain rejuvenation
certificates because of their bad back, bad ankles and feet
respectively. They look back on their lives and before them is enacted
a satirical survey of the production, advertising and marketing of a
brand of shoe which might be responsible for their present troubles.
The hoodwinking and general chicanery of modern commercialism is
fiercly exposed. Finally, the old ladies blame everything from Mother
to the Government, but, as one remarks: "Who knows, perhaps it's
just human nature that's to blame".
Published in
1979 by Samuel French Ltd., this has been a firm favourite with
Drama classes or groups that wish to give experience to many members.
